Lots to think about here, especially as my current WIP centres on a gay man coming home after many years away. And I am definitely not a gay man (surprise!)

All the SM advice I’ve seen recommends telling people just a little about yourself, sticking to safe subjects like pics of your writing space, thoughts about your writing process, pets. All I can say is thank god I have a cat.

Wise words on an author's sexuality. There was a similar debate from RTD not long ago about how only gay actors should be allowed to play gay characters. Although I can see his point (LGBTQ people owning our own stories), I don't agree - credibility and conviction are what matters. Similarly with writers, if we only write from within the narrow prism of our own "lived experience" then we're immediately limiting ourselves. Authenticity is key (and good writing, etc, etc...).

It never even occurred to me to wonder where on the sexuality spectrum you lay! But you do write Aldo and his demi monde friends very well indeed
