I'll be there, wearing my habitual black and white checkerboard winklepicker shoes, so can usually be identified by those.

Denise Mina is the after dinner speaker, followed by the Dagger Awards. First is the Red Herring, but the Emerging Author Dagger is given second so you'll know the outcome sooner rather than later - fingers crossed for you!

The emotional satisfaction aspect is so important. Not at the expense of wrapping up plot, as you say, but if you can set expectations early and maintain them throughout the book, then deliver that emotional satisfaction at the end in addition to plot, readers will thank you for it.

Completely agree and you write great endings!

IMO it’s the most common flaw. Recently read an excellent eco-thriller. I will and have recommended it but think the author made the wrong ending choice. 🙄

A wrong ending is such a buzzkill. As you say, it's the difference between 'meh' and 'I can't wait to tell you what I just read!!!'
