It’s always very pleasing when an author I like turns out to be a Doctor Who fan. From one who even cried when Adric died.

One of my Doctor Who novels - Empire of Death from 2004, not the unrelated TV story Empire of Death from 2024 - is set in the aftermath of Earthshock! There is much mourning for the fifth Doctor and Nyssa, as Queen Victoria's forces attempt to colonise the afterlife.

I always wondered why Adric was so disliked when Tegan was in the TARDIS. I am aware that this is considered heresy by many.

I missed out on the Fifth Doctor era as it wasn't broadcast in NZ until years later!

Thanks for the analysis - very interesting to see into the career of a working writer. You say that your writing is limited due to your working. A hypothetical (for now hopefully) if you did have more time would you start another series? I dont know many authors who write 2 books in a series annually, So one Aldo per year, and then? A new series? One offs?

If I wasn't teaching, I estimate I could write at least 3 books every two years and maintain the quality I expect of myself. I might be able to write 2 books a year, but sustaining that and maintaining the quality could be challenging.

I am seriously contemplating a Contessa Coltello standalone novel, as she's such fun to write.
